IMIA Medicine 2.0 Award
Background:
IMIA (the International Medical Informatics Association) is sponsoring an "IMIA Medicine 2.0 Award" for the best paper in the research track of the Medicine 2.0’09 conference (http://www.medicine20congress.com). The award consists of a US$ 500 award for the winner, to be used to facilitate development of a paper to be submitted to a peer reviewed journal for publication.
Eligibility:
- Eligible candidates are presenters (first authors) in the research track at the Medicine 2.0 conference
- Presenters must be under the age of 40 at the time of the last day of the conference
- The research must be unpublished and not be under consideration for publication in a journal at the time of the conference
- Candidates must indicate on the Medicine 2.0 submission form that they wish to have their abstracts and presentations considered for the Award.
- Panels or panellists are not eligible.
- Previous recipients of the Award will not be eligible.
Criteria:
The award will be given to recognise the best or most promising use or discussion of Web 2.0 for providing actual or potential benefit in medicine, healthcare, and/or health and biomedical informatics. All eligible abstracts will be considered by the judging panel (drawn from IMIA and the Medicine 2.0 organisers) and a shortlist of the most promising abstracts will be developed. Each presentation will then be judged and a winner determined from the scores.
Final criteria will be advised later, but will cover:
- scientific quality of the accepted abstract
- quality of the presentation
- interaction of the presenter through questions or discussion
- relevance to the conference themes and to the actual or potential use of Web 2.0 in medicine, healthcare, and/or health and biomedical informatics.
Further detailed information will be provided in early May, following the IMIA Board meeting. Any queries should be directed to Dr Peter Murray, IMIA Acting Executive Director (imia at imia-services. org).
Presentation of the Award:
This award will be presented at the closing session of the Medicine 2.0 conference. A certificate or similar will be presented to the recipient of the Award, or sent to them after the event. The stipend will be sent to the recipient after the event.
Deadline:
The abstract submission deadline for Medicine 2.0’09 is May 15th, 2009.
