Bio statementI am communications officer for the Stanford Institutes of Medicine, working mostly for the Institute for Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine and the Cardiovascular Institute. I received a bachelor's degree in Biophysics from UC Berkeley and worked for a time at Chiron Corp. doing genetic engineering on monocot crops before attending the Graduate Program in Science Communication at UC Santa Cruz. I have worked as a writer and editor at Cambridge University Press, the National Institutes of Health, UC San Francisco, Science News Magazine, New Scientist Magazine, and BioScience Magazine. I have written four popular science books, most recently "Play: How it Shapes the Brain, Opens the Imagination and Invigorates the Soul."
