IMIA Medicine 2.0 Award

Background:

As in 2009, IMIA (the International Medical Informatics Association) once again is sponsoring an "IMIA Medicine 2.0 Award" for the best paper in the research track of the Medicine 2.0'10 conference (http://www.medicine20congress.com). The award consists of a US$ 500 award for the winner, to be used to facilitate development of a paper to be submitted to a peer reviewed journal for publication.

Eligibility:

  • Eligible candidates are presenters (first authors) in the research track at the Medicine 2.0 conference
  • Presenters must be under the age of 40 at the time of the last day of the conference
  • The research must be unpublished and not be under consideration for publication in a journal at the time of the conference
  • Candidates must indicate on the Medicine 2.0 submission form that they wish to have their abstracts and presentations considered for the Award.
  • Panels or panellists are not eligible.
  • Previous recipients of the Award will not be eligible.

Criteria:

The award will be given to recognise the best or most promising use or discussion of Web 2.0 for providing actual or potential benefit in medicine, healthcare, and/or health and biomedical informatics. All eligible abstracts will be considered by the judging panel (drawn from IMIA and the Medicine 2.0 organisers) and a shortlist of the most promising abstracts will be developed. Each presentation will then be judged and a winner determined from the scores.

Final criteria may be subject to change, but will cover:

  1. scientific quality of the accepted abstract
  2. quality of the presentation
  3. interaction of the presenter through questions or discussion
  4. relevance to the conference themes and to the actual or potential use of Web 2.0 in medicine, healthcare, and/or health and biomedical informatics.

Any queries should be directed to Dr Peter Murray, IMIA Executive Director (imia at imia-services. org).

Presentation of the Award:

This award will be presented at the closing session of the Medicine 2.0 conference. A certificate or similar will be presented to the recipient of the Award, or sent to them after the event. The stipend will be sent to the recipient after the event.

Deadline:

The abstract submission deadline for Medicine 2.0'10 is May 30th, 2010. To be considered for the award, please check the respective checkbox when submitting your abstract.

JMIR Medicine 2.0 Award

Once again, JMIR (Journal of Medical Internet Research) is sponsoring an annual award for the best paper presented at Medicine 2.0. This non-cash award consists of a US$ 1000 Article Processing Fee discount and is designed to encourage and facilitate publication in the Journal of Medical Internet Research (http://www.jmir.org), the leading peer-reviewed open-access eHealth journal.

Eligibility:

  • Eligible candidates are presenters (first authors) at the Medicine 2.0 conference
  • The research or discussion paper must be unpublished and not be under consideration for publication in a journal at the time of the conference
  • Non-research papers from the practice track or other tracks are eligible, as are panel contributions
  • Recipients of the IMIA Medicine 2.0 Award are eligible

The decision will be made by the JMIR editor-in-chief and editorial board members. The sole criterion is potential impact of a written paper. The judging panel may decide not to make an award.

Presentation of the Award:

This award will be presented at the closing session of the Medicine 2.0 conference. A certificate or similar will be presented to the recipient of the Award, or sent to them after the event. The Article Processing Fee will be discounted if the paper has been accepted by the Journal of Medical Internet Research. The paper will undergo a regular peer-review process. The award has no cash value in the unlikely event that the paper should be rejected.

Deadline:

The abstract submission deadline for Medicine 2.0'10 is May 30th, 2010.
