Abstract
With the arrival of the global era, multinational company employees taking long-term overseas assignments and overseas tourists are increasing, and also there are many nationals living in different countries. In this environment, cross-border exchanges of patient requests, referrals, and examination and treatment information between medical institutions are urgently needed.
We established an ubiquitous-type globalized health care system based on a bi-directional medical examination and treatment information exchange network set up among hospitals in Korea and linked with global medical institutions, with Severance Hospital, Yonsei University. The system have been successfully implemented with other collaboration institutions with support of the Ministry of Health & Welfare, Republic of Korea.
This system allows any medical institution, physician, and patient to request medical examination and treatment, quickly and conveniently access visiting history, diagnosis results, and medication prescription details through the health care web portal (www.inphr.com). Also it provides remote video consultation and sharing personal health records.
In addition, depending on the scope of the patient’s consent, the personal health records generated by all medical institutions can be accessed as a lifetime manner.
Since ‘Inphr’ system allows communication at anytime and from anywhere, without directly visiting the hospital, it is advantageous in terms of cost and time savings. In addition, through the reliable electronic health network, mutual patient exchanges and inducements across borders are expected to become more active.
