Abstract Title:
Televideo solutions to reduce readmissions in support of new care delivery models
Name of Author, Organization and Address:

Abstract presentation/type/topic:
Poster; Designing to Connect Care
Abstract:
Videoconferencing has offered great potential in modern medicine but until now in practice, it has been severely limited due to cost and complexity. Despite decreasing equipment costs, it remains difficult to integrate videoconferencing into the health care workflow. SBR Health was created in direct response to health professionals’ need to try to use these types of technologies in their practices. The current problems in utilizing televideo include difficulties integrating into traditional clinician and IT workflows, providing the level of security required to be HIPAA compliant, inability to control patient access (by patients), and a lack of compatibility with existing televideo infrastructure.
Studies have shown that successful use of videoconferencing and real-time communications can profoundly benefit patients and doctors alike. Health care outcomes improve when truly collaborative communication takes place among doctors and specialists. Today, low cost and ubiquitous technologies exist that can facilitate the creation of a world in which videoconferencing has a place on the desk of every doctor, nurse and clinician. However, what is needed at the clinician level are applications designed specifically for the health care industry utilizing televideo as a communications modality. These need to be simple, highly secure, low cost and fully customizable. With these types of applications, health care professionals would have real-time, secure and efficient communication tools that would increase access to specialists, raise the overall levels of patient care, and improve delivery of care.
SBR Health presents this poster to demonstrate its solution to the current challenges in utilizing televideo. In working closely with many leading healthcare providers, SBR understands their existing workflow and behavior, and is piloting innovative approaches to help reduce readmissions, drive referrals and improve the quality of care. Our focus on televideo solutions are designed and deployed to support integration with existing network infrastructures and ultimately overcome the barriers that exist in today’s health care environment to enable rapid, widespread adoption.
