Bio statementDavid is the project manager of Pillbox, a National Library of Medicine (NLM), National Institutes of Health/Food and Drug Administration patient-safety initiative. Pillbox is opening government pharmaceutical data and transforming it into a platform for innovation, transferring ownership of public health resource to the communities they are meant to empower. The White House's Office of Science and Technology Policy has called his work, "a completely game-changing and fantastic idea." Known as a technology entrepreneur in government, Mr. Hale is a frequent speaker on the subjects of social media use by public health agencies, open government, and community engagement in the process of opening health data. David also co-chairs NLM’s Social Media Engagement and Mobile Development committee and has participated in research related to semantic and natural language processing of H1N1-related social networking communications. His work has been profiled on Lifehacker, Mashable, PBS NewsHour, CNN Health, as well as numerous technology, government, and pharmaceutical industry magazines and blogs.
