Abstract
Iran is an upper-middle-income country with a vast area containing many remote rural areas. People living in these locations access very few medical centers and healthcare services. Moreover, personal computers are not available singly in homes for establishing a strong IT based health system. Additional concern is the increasing number of elderly in Iranian society. On the other hand, the incidence of diabetes which is a major health problem worldwide is increasing among Iranian nationals and more than five percent of the population is diagnosed to be suffering from diabetes. Given these factors, strides need to be taken to reach population in remote regions through web-based health-related tools for monitoring diabetes and hypertension to manage preventive issues.
In this study, a web-based software together with an integrated and dynamic database is designed and implemented for telemonitoring of blood glucose, blood pressure and pulse rate. The software system maintains, displays and appraises the transferred values of mentioned vital signs of the patients. In this system, medical records of patients, their current diseases, and the prescribed medicine can be registered, to assist diagnosis, treatment, consultation, education, and better communication between healthcare providers and patients.
All the provided information is accessible for granted users, such as healthcare providers, health administrators, and physicians in multifarious and appropriate file formats, to make proper decisions and take actions in diagnosis, controlling the disease immediately.
The outcomes of this research ascertain that implementing such a web-based software system, avails conditions that accelerate monitoring and consequently remedy of patients.
